The opening of the New Zealand electricity industry to competition bought
it's own IT challenges to this large state-owned enterprise. To be able
to participate in this sharing of the electricity market, this energy provider had to
build an ultra-reliable data warehouse
that collected real-time power pricing data 24 by 7. Millions of dollars
of trades are done daily so both system reliability and timely delivery
of trading data are critical.
Sysware consultants were instrumental in developing and supporting these applications
that helped drive the business. Working with an ETL (extract, transform
and load) tool, our consultants built many ETL and monitoring programs to provide
the energy traders with the appropriate data. The project included providing
OLAP data structures for end users to exploit, the development of Web-based
reporting for end users; and the establishment and optimisation of the
reporting architecture.
